Decide the decoration method first

Most clubs order medals the week before presentation night and take whatever the supplier has in stock. Decide three things earlier and you get a better medal for the same money: the decoration method, the weight, and whether the back is engraved.

Struck relief suits a simple, bold crest and looks genuinely premium. A full-color printed insert suits gradients, photography and sponsor logos. Trying to strike a four-color sponsor mark into metal is where most disappointing medals come from.

Weight is what people notice

Nobody articulates it, but everyone feels it. A heavier gauge and a deeper strike is the difference between a medal that reads as an award and one that reads as a party favor. If budget forces a choice, put the weight into the champion medals and keep the squad medals lighter.
